Tourist Stream

Visa Type: Temporary  

 

Purpose: for citizens of People’s Republic of China who regularly visit Australia for travel, holiday, visit friends and family, business activities

  • Must be Chinese citizens
  • Have enough money to support yourself while in Australia.

Subclass 417

Working Holiday visa

For young adults who want an extended holiday and to work here to fund it.
Basic Eligibility

The visa is open to people with passports from: Belgium; Canada; Denmark; Estonia; Finland; France; Germany; Hong Kong; Italy; Japan; Malta; Netherlands; Norway; Republic of Cyprus; Republic of Korea; Sweden; Taiwan; United Kingdom.

 

  • You must be 18 to 30 years old and have a passport from an eligible country.
  • You must be single or married without children.
  • You must meet education requirements, English language requirements, financial requirements, health requirements and the character requirement.
  • You must have a letter of support from your country, and a return ticket or sufficient funds for a return fare and the first part of your stay.
  • You intend to leave Australia at the end of your authorised stay.
First Work and Holiday Visa

You can stay in Australia for 12 months.

 

You can do short-term work in Australia to cover your pay for your holiday.

 

You can study for up to 4 months.

 

You are permitted to work in Australia, but you cannot work for longer than 6 months with any one employer.

 

You can do 3 months of specified subclass 462 work to become eligible for a second Work and Holiday visa.

 

If you want to stay longer, you can apply for a visitor visa or a second Working and Holiday visa.

Second Work and Holiday Visa

You must have previously entered Australia on a subclass 462 visa.

 

You can stay in Australia for 12 months.

 

You can do short-term work in Australia to cover your pay for your holiday.

 

You can study for up to 4 months.

 

You are permitted to work in Australia, but you cannot work for longer than 6 months with any one employer.

 

You can do 6 months of specified subclass 462 work to become eligible for a third Work and Holiday visa.

 

If you want to stay longer, you can apply for a third Working and Holiday visa.

Third Work and Holiday Visa

You must have previously held 2 subclass 462 via in Australia.

 

You can stay in Australia for 12 months.

 

You can do short-term work in Australia to cover your pay for your holiday.

 

You can study for up to 4 months.

 

You are permitted to work in Australia, but you cannot work for longer than 6 months with any one employer.

 

You can do 6 months of specified subclass 462 work to become eligible for a third Work and Holiday visa.

 

If you want to stay longer, you can apply for a fourth Working and Holiday visa.

Subclass 408

Temporary Activity visa

This visa allows you to come to Australia to do specific types of work on a short-term, temporary basis.

Basic Eligibility
  • You must be equipped with the skills to undertake the activity to be carried out in Australia.
  • You are supported or sponsored.
  • You have to meet additional requirements of the relevant stream.
  • With this visa you can engage in the following activities
Australian Government Endorsed Events

The visa enables you to come to Australia to attend events that are endorsed by the Australian Government.

 

You can stay until the event finishes or up to 4 years.

 

  • You must submit your application online and have a letter of endorsement from the event organiser.
  • You must be approved to attend an Australian Government endorsed event.
  • You must be able to support yourself and any dependents.
  • You must meet all requirements of health, character, health insurance and English language.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the event.
Special Program

You are allowed to participate in an approved special program. You can stay up to 12 months.

 

You must have an invitation to take part in an approved special program.

You must be supported or sponsored.

There are four types of special programs:

  • culture enrichment or community benefits program
  • school language assistants program
  • school-to-school interchange program
  • youth exchange program

 

You must meet age requirements of different programs.

 

You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.

 

You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the program.

Religious Work

You can do full-time religious work for a religious institution in Australia. You can stay in Australia up to 2 year.

 

  • You must have an agreement that is a suitable employment contract to work full time for a religious institution in Australia.
  • You must have the appropriate experience and qualifications to do the work in your contract.
  • You must be supported or sponsored depending on your circumstances
  • You have to submit your application online.
  • You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the work.
Research activities

You can observe or take part in a research project at a research or tertiary institution in Australia.  You can stay in Australia up to 2 years.

 

  • You must have a sponsor or supporter depending on your circumstances.
  • You must have an invitation to observe or participate in research at an Australian research or tertiary institution. The research must be related top academic research activities or research student activities.
  • You must be an established academic researcher, research student or recent graduate
  • You must apply for the visa online.
  • You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the activity.
Invited for other social and cultural activity (Invited Participant)

You are invited to participate in a community-based event, including sporting events. You can stay in Australia up to 3 months.

 

  • You cannot be in immigration clearance
  • You must have a sponsor or supporter depending on your circumstances.
  • You must have an invitation to attend the event
  • You must apply for the visa online.
  • You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the activity.
Sporting Activities

You can play, coach, instruct or adjudicate for an Australian team, or do high level sports training with a sporting organization and stay in Australia up to 2 years.

 

  • You cannot be in immigration clearance
  • You must have a contract that is a suitable formal agreement, and a letter of support from a peak sporting body
  • You must be supported or sponsored depending on your circumstances
  • You must be an eligible sports trainee, elite player, coach, instructor or adjudicator
  • You cannot work outside your specified sporting activities
  • You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the activity.
Entertainment Activities

You can come to Australia to work as a performer, production or support staff in the entertainment industry on film, television or live productions and stay up to 2 years.

 

  • You cannot be in immigration clearance
  • You must have a contract or other proof of your engagement
  • You must proof that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependents when you come to Australia
  • You must have a supporter or a sponsor
  • You must intend to work in an eligible entertainment activity category according to the requirement of government.
  • You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the activity.
Superyacht Crew

This visa lets you work in Australia as a crew member of a superyacht. You can stay here for up to 12 months.

 

  • You cannot be in immigration clearance
  • You must have an employment contract of your work and a confirmation letter from the owner of superyacht
  • You must be supported or sponsored depending on your circumstances
  • You are able to support yourself when you come to Australia
  • You must meet the requirement of age, finance, health, character and health insurance.
Exchange Arrangements

You can come to Australia as a part of a staff exchange with an Australian organisation and stay up to 2 years.

 

  • You cannot be in immigration clearance
  • You must be equipped with the skills and experience to exchange jobs with an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • You must have a supporter or a sponsor
  • Submit your application online
  • You must participate in a reciprocal staff exchange
  • The activity must benefit both of you and the Australian taking part.
  • You must meet the requirement of finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the activity.
Domestic work for executives

You can do full-time domestic work in the household of certain senior foreign executive. The visa allows you to stay in Australia up to 2 years.

 

  • You cannot be in immigration clearance
  • You must have an invitation to work in the household, and a suitable employment contract.
  • You must have a supporter or a sponsor
  • You must have experience in domestic work
  • You must meet the requirement of age, finance, health, character and health insurance.
  • You have to provide the evidence that you will go back your country after the activity.

Subclasses 155 and 157

Resident Return visa

If you leave Australia after your travel validity expires, or it expires when you are outside Australia, you will not be able to return to Australia as a permanent resident. This visa allows you to return as a permanent resident.

About this visa

If your permanent resident visa expires but you want to continue to travel overseas, you must apply for a Resident Return Visa. This visa enables you to re-enter into Australia as a permanent resident.

5 years visa

You must have been physically in Australia as a permanent resident for at least 2 years in the 5 years immediately before applying and the time spent in Australia is cumulative. You can also continue to build up time after your visa expires, as long as you remain in Australia as a permanent resident.

1 year visa

You will be eligible for a 1-year visa if you can provide evidence of your “substantial ties” to Australia, which include:

 

  • Employment ties – e.g. holding a job offer in Australia
  • Business ties – e.g. owning or managing a business in Australia
  • Family ties – e.g. having close family members who are Australian Citizen or Permanent Residents
  • Cultural ties – e.g.  prove your role in adding to Australia’s cultural life include a range of intellectual, artistic, sporting or religious activities 

The Department of Home Affairs has significant discretion in determining whether the ties are sufficiently close for grant of the RRV. Note that if you have over five years’ absence from Australia, you will need to show compelling reasons for the absence.

 

It is important to check your eligibility before making any travel plans close to the expiry of your current permanent visa.
